Acrobat 7 EOL - Another example of why DRM is horrible.

I have users who are still using Acrobat 7 and CS2. Adobe decided to EOL CS2/Acrobat 7. I get that they can’t support everything all the time. However those products have to constantly phone home.  With the activation servers offline my users can’t use their software. This is a great example of why DRM doesn’t work and only hurts paying customers. If I were using a pirated version I would never have had this problem. To be fair Adobe has put out a way for customers to download CS2 / Acrobat 7 that can activate. However the process if convoluted and they should just put a link to download it from their FTP.  That would be in the best interest of the consumer. Given their reasons for EOL I can’t see why putting letting people download it from their FTP would be a problem.

“Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.”
