Through generosity of friends the kids and I were able to go to Animal Kingdom. The children had no idea what was going to happen and I managed to keep it a secret the entire time, which was very hard to do. They nearly figured it out a few times and I had to distract them. I told them we were going to stay with a friend of mine and hang out with them for Spring break. When we arrived at my friend’s home in Orlando the kids were very happy and Xan was in awe of the his amazing home theater setup. We went over the rules again (and again, and again). After the kids went to bed we went to work on planning the surprise reveal to them. I had already purchased new shoes, bathing suits, sun clothes, etc. and everything broken in. So to them taking the stuff up there wasn’t out of the ordinary. We laid everything out and planned to tell them after breakfast then went to sleep. The kids as usual were up at dawn and the excitement for the adults hung thick in the air. So when we showed them their new sunglasses, sandwich bags with Mickey Mouse, and their sun clothes laid out the kids were confused. So I told them we were going to Animal Kingdom in Disney World. They didn’t believe me until we reached the gates of the park. That’s when the ear to ear smiles came out and the excitement exceeded my own. This trip was really important to all of us after 6 months of being torn from one another. While we didn’t get to go on a lot of rides we made memories that will last a life time. I’m so thankful to have my friends and family. Without them none of this would have been possible.
